'Fat'shion- One Size Fits All...

Weight. It's an issue most of us deal with us in our life; holiday weight, baby weight, beer bellies..
Some us are trying to lose some weight for our wedding day, for the Marathon we got roped in to doing, for that special date, or for that swim suit.  There are times when we need to gain weight, too thin to become pregnant, to thin for boobs, or too thin to get some muscles at the gym. However, it's usually to lose weight.
Unfortunately for many of us weight, is our lives. Whether, your too thin, too fat or your the ideal weight, it does not mean you wont stop obsessing over your jiggly thighs or that double chin. Day in day out, many of us gaze in the mirror pulling bits up saying 'that has to go'.
Let's face it, the media doesn't help us 'regular' people either. We see a celeb who three weeks ago was a size 16 and is now a size 8. We think, how? and feel bad that we've been dieting for three weeks, and the scales says you are a pound heavier. Liposuction, boot camps and drastic surgery are things many of us can't afford. I'm glad we can't!. Take the airbrushing away and they're still as insecure as us.
As a size 16 lady, I know i'm not the healthiest size. However, being overweight seems to disgust people more than those who are scarily underweight. I don't get it, surely one's as unhealthy as the other?
the reason why? models. We all remember when Kate Moss's slogan;
 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'  hit t-shirts. Not just on sale for weight crazed adults, but for kids!
'Dangerous': A children's T-shirt bearing Kate Moss' motto is being advertised and sold on www.zazzle.co.uk

This t-shirt literally makes me feel sick. Of coarse, promote a healthy lifestyle and healthy foods to kids, but this?
Who OK'd size zero models? we see size zero models at all fashion weeks, London, New York, Paris.. Britain and America's next top model applicants have been rejected for being too fat at size 6. Yet, to be a plus size model, is still taboo unless its for an unfashionable plus size clothes catalogue.  When the world begged for plus size models at fashion week, if glorified anorexics were allowed to strut their stuff, or lack off, down the catwalk, why can't we?. They responded;
'To promote chubby fashion models when obesity is one of the major problems of industrialised countries seems to be a paradox.’
A paradox is reading a magazine on an article on to dieting, when next to it Galaxy chocolate is advertised. Would it be ok to write an article on anorexia or bulimia in a magazine, with a sick bucket next to it. It seems like there is alot of double standards going on.
My favorite model, Sophie Dahl was slated years ago for her plump figure in her Vogue photo shoot for the Size issue. However, she is one of the most beautiful women since Marilyn Monroe. As women are supposed to be 'womenly', mother bearing hips, breasts.. not, flat chested due to the lack of food. Yet, men are perceived to prefer larger breasts, yet,  skinny people with no boobs get nicer bra's? The larger your boobs, the less sexy the bra. What is going on?

I'm not saying either is right. Both weights carry health issues. It's very rare you'll meet many people who is the ideal weight, so why should plus size celebrities, only be mentioned because of their fuller figure. Were all human, weight isn't all these people are about; Nigella Lawson is a fantastic cook, Sophie Dahl is a wonderful baker, Christina Hendricks is a great actor and role model, Adele has the most soulful voice that we've heard in years, Melissa Mc Carthy is a great actress and comedy writer, Dawn french is a wonderful author, comedian and actress, Beth Ditto is an amazing performer and lyricist.. the list goes on. We all know that Marilyn Monroe was a size 16, and she is the biggest pin up of all time.

Everyone knows, anorexia and body dis morphia is an illness. Where the person sees themselves as ugly and fat which is greatly saddening. People understand this, and do not poke fun or make jokes.
However, with obesity, it's ok to poke fun, and make jokes about it to these people. why? They're both an addiction of some sort. An anorexic is addicted to that feeling of looking lighter and being in control of what goes into them. An obese person is the same, they are in control of what goes into them, they replace emotion with food.
We take drug addiction, alcoholism and gambling addictions seriously.
When Rock stars say how much cocaine they took in one night, we're shocked yet it kind of gives them an edge, and we'll still fill out their concerts. If some one said I ate six bars of chocolate and ten burgers last night, there's a reaction of disgust.

There's tonnes of fashion for the thin, yet little to none for plus size. Women can't dress then to suit their personality and their style. So they become depressed.  The media has to stop choosing side of the thin, and meet everyone half way.
Fat and thin are just adjectives to me, stop with the labels and get to know the person, their hobbies, their feelings before you judge.

See with the heart,

Love, Mya xxx

  1. I couldn't agree more. 12-16 is the perfect size range for most men.
